The 171 km long Eder cycle path runs from Erndtebrück through the Waldecker Land past the Eder estuary and on quiet cycle and farm paths on to Baunatal-Guntershausen.
The route runs through a varied low mountain range.
After starting in Erndtebrück, the route first goes through the Rothaargebirge nature park and continues across the NRW/Hessen border through the Waldecker Land and the Schwalm-Eder district.
If you would like to visit the Eder source, you can follow the signs for the feeder (green E).
The Eder cycle path takes you to old half-timbered towns, through beautiful beech and spruce forests, past mountain streams and quiet ponds.
The highlight is the Edersee with the adjacent Kellerwald-Edersee National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Safety information
There are sections with coarse gravel, so please drive carefully at these points.In a short section between Ederbringhausen and Schmittlotheim there is a switchback, this is a sliding section.
Tips and hints
In spring, the river landscape is particularly beautiful, because while everything is slowly starting to turn green, you can still enjoy the many beautiful views.Take time to stop at one of the bird observation pulpits to observe the variety of birds.

After leaving Erndtebrück and the beautiful Birkenallee behind you in the direction of Womelsdorf, you enter the somewhat adventurous landscape of Bad Berleburg. In Raumland there is a slate show mine.
After crossing the NRW/Hesse border between Beddelhausen and Hatzfeld, the route takes you leisurely along the old paved railway line over old railway bridges.
Between Reddighausen and Dodenau you come through a 350 meter long tunnel, but only in the warm season. In cold temperatures, the tunnel is closed because the pug bats overwinter. There is an alternative route outside the tunnel along the Eder. On this path you will pass the Dodenau Wildlife Park.
Continue towards Frankenberg where you will pass a bird watching pulpit behind Rennertehausen.
In Frankenberg you will first cycle through an industrial area but then you will arrive at the new Eder Park, which invites you to linger. Here near the water park you will find a bicycle parking facility and a hose machine from spring.
Then you continue towards Edersee, on this path there is a switchback in the forest between Ederbringhausen and Schmittlotheim, that is a short sliding distance, here you have to be careful that you do that Shield not overlooked. It then goes a little downhill through a small stream. You continue to Herzhausen, where you will also find the National Park train station (with battery charging station).
From here, at the western point of the Edersee, you cycle on the south side of the lake to Asel-Süd and then on to the edge of the Kellerwald National Park -Edersee along. The Edersee is worth a longer stop.
After you have passed the Edersee region with the treetop path and the wild animal park, you continue to Fritzlar and Felsberg until you reach the mouth of the Eder in the Fulda. You should definitely make a stop at the mouth of the Eder.
From there it is not far to the end point at the beautiful railway viaduct in Baunatal-Guntershausen, where you can either continue by train or cycle on the R1/Fulda-Radweg.
You can cycle to Kassel and return from there by train, e.g. B. via Marburg to Erndtebrück. So you only have to change once.

Getting there
You reach Erndtebrück via the B62.If you want to get on in Frankenberg (Eder), you can get there via the B252 and B253.
If you want to cycle the other way around, i.e. start in Baunatal-Guntershausen, you can arrive via the A7 and exit Take Guxhagen.
If you come via the A49, then you have to take the Baunatal-Süd exit.
Parking
If you arrive by car you can park in Erndtebrück at the train station and from there get on the Eder cycle path. It starts behind the train station at the Park&Ride car park. There you will also find the information board for the Eder cycle path.If you cycle the other way around, from Guntershausen to Erndtebrück, you can also park there at the station.
There are parking spaces at other stations: Frankenberg (Eder), Viermünden, Ederbringhausen, Schmittlotheim, Herzhausen National Park Station (battery charging cabinets), Bad Wildungen, Wega, Fritzlar, Wabern
