This can only be found at the Rothaar montains: a wild wisent herd. This is unique in all of Western Europe! One of the biggest land mammal of Europe is threatend with extinction. But since 2013 they are back in free nature - in Bad Berleburg and the surrounding area! Since then a free herd of the majestic giants is roaming around the forests of this region. It is a facinating conservarion project - raise through a private initiative and supported by committed citizens.
