Due to the corona pandemic, all traditional markets have been cancelled for 2020. The organisation team made this decision heavy hearted, but for the benefit of all guests and visitors. We hope for your kind understanding!

We are already looking forward to our popular markets in 2021 - albeit with caution and prudence.

Tradition and customs play an important role in the region. Therefore, several events are on the programme, where the old handicraft is brought back to life.

The traditional markets inspire the numerous visitors every year anew.

When it is getting warmer in spring, the sheep have to release their winter furs.

You can experience this tradition live at the Wool Market in May. Sheep are shorn on site and the fur is processed into wool. All steps of this process can be seen on this market. An exciting experience for young and old! In addition to the sheep, cuddly rabbits are also part of the party, which especially inspire the young visitors.

Every third year in September the Wittgenstein Wood Market takes place. As the name says it all about wood - and what can be gained from it - is presented. In one of the most densely wooded regions of Germany, you can see for yourself the diversity of the raw material. The varied supporting programme with forest-related educational activities and lumberjack games, in which demonstrate their skill and precision, will provide entertainment at the two-day market.

In October, the small baking houses in Bad Berleburg and the villages are heated up and fresh bread is baked in the traditional way. The results are presented at the Bread Market. The starting signal for this extremely tasty market is the harvest service at 10:15 am, followed by the market bustle with colourfully decorated harvest carts.

On the third weekend in Advent, the Christmas Time Journey enchants the old town into a market spectacle: follow the hustle and bustle from modernity to baroque and Biedermeier and even back to the Middle Ages. Every year, thousands of visitors are thrilled by the jugglers and the castle by torchlight. A real winter fairytale!
